UAE-German Friendship Committee held its fourth meeting in Munich
Munich - The UAE- German Friendship committee held its fourth meeting last night in German city of Munich. The UAE side was chaired by HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan, while the German side was headed by Dr Gerard Schroeder, former German Chancellor.
Sheikh Hamdan said his current visit to Germany comes in line with the instructions from the UAE leadership to bolster the relations between the two countries. He cited the agreement signed in 2004 on strategic relations. He reiterated that the joint cooperation would come into effect soon in huge sectors such as oil, gas, industry, infrastructure and joint ventures.
Sheikh Hamdan noted that the UAE government attaches importance to the renewable energy topic, adding that the delegation discussed cooperation in this vital field.
On his part, Schroeder welcomed Sheikh Hamdan and the UAE delegation, adding that the UAE-German Friendship Society could not have seen light without the efforts of Sheikh Hamdan. He added that the UAE is a great friend of Germany.
He said that the world was experiencing the worst economic downturn in 80 years, adding that the international community should take more measures to restore confidence in the banks and insurance companies. Schroeder called for collective national, European and world efforts to resuscitate the world economy.
"We discovered during this global financial crisis the significance of new industrial countries, notably Brazil, Russia, India, China and Gulf countries. They should be given more roles in the international financial institutions as the financial crisis has proven that we could not tackle alone except through joint work", said the former German Chancellor.
He added that the UAE is the major trade partner for Germany in the Arab world. Hence, "we have to exert further efforts to maintain this partnership through dialogue and exchange of views".
