UAE continues to put brake on organic fertilisers imports

The Ministry of Environment '&' Water is still pressing ahead with a decision issued in 20 September 2005 to revoke licenses for import of organic fertilisers.
A statement released by the Ministry yesterday said the local production of organic fertilisers, processed and traded under its supervision, "satisfies the growing demand of the farmers in the UAE." The Ministry denied in the statement a news report published last Friday in Al Bayan newspaper, claiming that it had allowed import of a soil enricher to which provides perfect condition for killer reptiles to thrive.
"The Ministry maintains very strict control in all points of entry in the country by implementing rules and regulations related to agricultural and veterinarian quarantine. No shipments of organic fertilisers have entered into the country since 2005," it added.
