Indian entertainment industry in `shock` over MJ`s death

Mumbai, June 26 (PTI) Members of India's film and
music industry on Friday came forward to pay tributes to
Michael Jackson and said it will be difficult to fill the void
created by the death of the pop icon who was a source of
inspiration to millions.

Bollywood's 'disco dancer' Mithun Chakraborty told PTI
of the 50-year-old legend who "moonwalked" to the heart of
millions of fans across the globe: "I am definitely saddened
by the news. He might be physically gone but he will always
remain in the hearts of millions of fans through his music.

"You can guess the depth of my feeling about him going
by the fact that I named my son after him. (Mithun's son is
named Mimoh after the first names of Jackson and legendary
boxer Mohammad Ali). He was my inspiration and I idolised him.
I was looking forward to his comeback concert in London."

Bollywood choreographer Farah Khan revered the star as
her guru. "I officially had no training in dance and whatever
I learnt was from watching Michael Jackson videos, especially
'Thriller' over and over again. I consider him as my guru.

"I got the news in Los Angeles where I came to meet
Shah Rukh (who is shooting for Karan Johar's 'My Name Is
Khan'). It has not sunk in yet. It is still to sink in that he
is no more," said Farah.

Ghazal maestro Jagjit Singh termed Jackson's death as
a big loss to the music industry.

"He revolutionised the pop culture. He was actually an
institution in himself. Not only I used to listen to his
songs, I used to immensely enjoy his videos as well. He was a
complete performer," said Singh, adding "I was planning to
attend his comeback tour in London. I missed the last chance
to see him perform live."

Lyricist Javed Akhtar, whose favourite track is 'We
are the world' said, "His contribution will always remembered.
He has left a huge impression on the world with his music. The
way he had written songs and they were performed were
exceptional. He was a complete entertainer."

Jackson was in inspiration for 'Jai ho' singer
Sukhwinder Singh too. "Michael Jackson was an international
icon and he was such an inspiration. I see him perhaps as the
best performer that ever existed. One did not need to meet him
to feel the loss. It is very sad to see that such a great and
incredible superstar leave us so early. It's such a great loss
to the international music and there nobody who can fill this
vacuum in coming years," he said.

"Watching him or listening to him was invigorating for
musicians world over. Music lovers were waiting for his
comeback tours and they were all sold out concerts," he said.

Classical singer Shubha Mudgal was also a die-hard fan
of Jackson's music. "I'm shocked with the huge loss. It does
not make any difference even if I am a classical singer. I am
still a Michael Jackson fan. His numbers are always there in
my ipod. His music crossed all barriers of language, region,
country and ethnicity," she said.

'Bhangra king' Daler Mehndi said it is a huge loss to
the world of music.

"I have no words to describe his sudden and tragic
death. He made the whole world dance on his tunes. An artiste
like Jackson is only born once in a 100 years."

'Masakalli' singer Mohit Chauhan, also the frontman
for band 'Silk Route' said, "Jackson was an inspiration for
the band. He was a genius in his art a legend whose absence
will always be grieved"

Singer Kailash Kher referred the superstar as
'messenger of god' and said, "When I came to Mumbai my friends
actually made fun of me for not knowing who Michael Jackson
was. But then it inspired me to hear his music and I began
loving it. One thing which I will always remember is the way
he emerged as one of the biggest icon starting from a humble
background. He is a messenger of god who was sent to spread
love through his music."

Playback singer Abhijeet said "People call him the
'king of pop' but for me he was the 'god of pop'. Be it Prabhu
Deva or Hritik Roshan, everybody has been inspired by him."

Sherrin Verghese, a member of 'Band of Boys' said, "I
actually stole tyres from a junk car, sold it for Rs 700 and
then borrowed the rest Rs 800 from my girl friend to but the
ticket for Michael's show in Mumbai in 1996. I still have the
ticket with me. PTI
