Khalifa Foundation launches the largest-ever Ramadan food rationing programme
Abu Dhabi, July 13, 2009 (WAM) - Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Charity Foundation today launched the largest Ramadan food rationing progarmme in the region which is expected to benefit more than 44,000 families or 300,000 persons in the country. Executive Director of the Foundation Mohammed Haji Khoury and Hussein Al Sheikh Executive Director of Social Welfare, Ministry of Social Affairs, announced the Ramadan supplies campaign for 2009 at a joint press conference today.
Khoury said ''This year's Ramadan food aid programme is the largest one in favour of the target groups since the creation of the country...... it is also the first initiative of its kind in the region in support of beneficiary families through the coupons of essential foodstuff which will cover the needs of families during the holy month of Ramadan.
“The food aid programme is part of the Foundation's local humanitarian strategy. It will be executed before the advent of the fasting month,” he said. He added that these provisions would be distributed in coordination with the Ministry of Social Affairs through its reliable data base of families in need and this saves time and effort and helps delivery of these assistance as quickly as possible.
More than 15,000 of foodstuff and dry food items including local popular dishes associated with the month like Harees, rice, sugar, flour, edible oil, powdered milk, milk, tea, dates, pasta and soft drinks, will be distributed through 26 centres nationwide. - Emirates News Agency, WAM
