Kyrgyzstan, WB discuss air quality improvement project

Bishkek, Feb. 6, 2026 /Kabar/. On February 4, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Environment, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic held a meeting with Sameh Naguib Wahba, World Bank Regional Director for Sustainable Development in Europe and Central Asia.

According to the ministry, the parties discussed strategic collaboration and prospects for expanding cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and the World Bank in key sustainable development areas.

Particular attention was paid to improving air quality, enhancing climate resilience, and implementing the World Bank-funded "Improving Air Quality in Kyrgyzstan" project. Opportunities for strengthening collaboration to advance the Mountain Agenda were also discussed.

Minister Meder Mashiev noted the importance of the World Bank's support in implementing priority national programs aimed at adapting to climate change, reducing environmental risks, and implementing modern environmental solutions. It was also noted that the Ministry is actively working to draft and adopt a climate action law that will establish legal and economic mechanisms for the country's transition to low-carbon and sustainable development.

At the end of the meeting, Sameh Naguib Wahba expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and constructive discussion of prospects for further cooperation.
