UAE well ahead in voluntary work: Sheikha Fatima
Abu Dhabi, July 27, 2009 (WAM)- The voluntary work represents symbol of solidarity and cooperation among individuals in the community, said HH Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairperson of the Family Development Foundation and Chairwoman of the General Women's Union, on launching 'million volunteers campaign' initiated by the Zayed Charity Initiative under patronage of Sheikha Fatima.
"The voluntary work has been attached to all themes of good work in all communities since the dawn of history", she said, adding that the UAE leadership under wise leadership of President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan "is keen about the voluntary work due to its noble humanitarian impact and alleviation of suffering among the needy categories as well".
Sheikha Fatima reiterated that the million volunteers' campaign will pave way for individuals in the UAE community and the world countries to actively participate in all forms of the voluntary work. She called on all the UAE national women to effectively participate in the campaign to ease suffering on the needy on one hand, and reflect the civilised image of the UAE in this respect.
She cited that the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan had laid down the foundations of the voluntary work- a course followed by the current UAE leadership.
Dr Adel Al Shameri, chief executive of the Zayed Charity Initiative said that "when individuals are zealous to involve in social issues such as voluntary work, the voluntary work reaps genuine and positive results", adding that to achieve such a success, volunteers should be trained well to contribute in various activities.
With the declaration of the campaign, he continued individuals began to contribute in social work, adding that the voluntary campaign was launched in cooperation with the Abu Dhabi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Emirates Voluntary Centre and others.
