Muslim bodies slam NHRC report on Batla encounter
New Delhi, April 27 (PTI) Rejecting as "biased and
one-sided" the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) report
on Batla House encounter, several prominent Muslim
organisations Monday demanded a high-level judicial enquiry
into the case, alleging that the rights body has "betrayed the
trust of people by completely denying the other party to be
heard".
Coordination Committee of Indian Muslims (CCIM), an
organisation comprising eight prominent Muslim organisation
including Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, announced that it would stage
a protest demonstration in the national capital Tuesday to
press their demand and further continue its "struggle" till
judicial enquiry into the case was ordered.
The NHRC in its report, submitted to Delhi High Court
on July 22, gave a clean chit to Delhi Police in the Batla
House encounter case in which two suspected Indian Mujahideen
terrorists and a police officer were killed last year, saying
there was no human rights violation by the police and action
taken by police was fully protected by law.
"NHRC betrayed the trust of the people by completely
denying the other party to be heard (in the Batla House
encounter case). In its report, it has only relied on the
police version. The report of the Commission is a sheer
mockery of humanity," political secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami
Hind and convenor of the CCIM Mujtaba Farooq told reporters
here.
"We demand the government set up a high-level judicial
enquiry not only in the case of Batla House encounter, but
also in all high profile terrorist incidents that took place
in our country," Farooq said.
Echoing a similar view, president of Tanzim
Abna-e-Qadeem Darul Uloom Deoband, Maulana Ameeduzzama
Keranvi, said NHRC in its report has totally relied on the
version of police and did not even bother to listen to the
other parties involved in the case.
"We demand a judicial enquiry into the probe," he
added.
President of Ulema Council of Azamgarh, Amir Rashadi,
termed the NHRC report as "planted" and demanded a CBI probe
into the encounter.
He alleged that government deliberately rejected the
demands for CBI enquiry into the case "to save its face".
"NHRC completely failed to protect human rights of the
victims. It has lost faith of common people that it's is above
state pressure," he added. PTI PKU
