Dubai trade expos grow steadily

Dubai, Aug 18, 2009 (WAM) - Latest figures from Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) show that business confidence in the Middle East events sector is increasing, with the number of companies participating in trade and consumer shows at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) reaching an all-time high in the first half of 2009 according to a report published in Gulf News.
A total of 21,823 companies from over 80 countries participate in the 55 exhibitions that took place at the DWTC during the first half of 2009 - a clear indicator that global organisations recognise the potential to capitalise on the quality of regional visitor traffic that industry flagship shows such as Gulfood and Arab Health attract to Dubai.
The 2009 Gulfood brought 45,489 visitors from over 152 countries, delivering an optimal mix of high potential business leads and networking opportunities for the 3,300 companies participating in the four-day culinary extravaganza.
"In times of global economic challenges and financial instability, it is even more vital for corporations worldwide to continue to engage and interact. No other medium offers the same opportunities to meet with customers, to showcase new products and innovations and to create new business opportunities," said Hilal Saeed Al Merri, CEO, Dubai World Trade Centre.
"As evidenced by the overwhelming exhibitor response, companies see events in Dubai as a strategic platform to open doors in the region for investments and deliver the momentum for business growth."
Drawing a record 551,938 visitors from January through June to shows at the DWTC, several exhibitions demonstrated strong growth in footfall and size.
Gulfood witnessed an outstanding 16 per cent increase in visitor traffic. Many exhibitors reported statistical evidence of rising consumer and investor confidence within the food and beverage market.
Arab Health was a noteworthy example of the 2009 blockbuster trade events. With over 50,000 visitors and 2,205 exhibitors from 59 countries, Arab Health occupied the entire DICEC venue with the exhibitor stands sprawling an impressive 65,000 square metres of space.
The Dubai International Boat Show drew over 730 exhibitors.
