World Bank approves loan for Uzbekistan

WASHINGTON, September 25 (Itar-Tass) -- The World Bank approved a US$
65.5 million loan to Uzbekistan on Thursday with a grace period of ten
years and 35-year maturity to improve agricultural production in the
Ferghana Valley.
The bank said the Ferghana Valley Water Resources Management Project
is to improve agricultural production in areas affected by water-logging,
and to reduce damage to housing and infrastructure from rising ground
water levels and salinity in the project districts.
