INFORMATION ON ASIAN HAJ ROUTE WILL BE DOCUMENTED

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 17 (Bernama) -- Information and knowledge on many aspects
of the Asian Haj route congregated in the Asian Haj Route Symposium were
documented and will be kept permanently at the National Archives.

The Director-General National Archives, Sidek Jamil said it would be made
accessible to interested parties for further consultation and research.

"This is in line with the National Archives' vision to become the premier
centre for archives and research in the country," he said during the closing of
the Asian Haj Route Symposium at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Memorial, here
Wednesday.

The two-day symposium was organised by the National Archives and the Islamic
Education, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (ISESCO).

In the symposium, 24 interesting papers were presented by local and
international speakers, Sidek said.

He said the organisation of the regional symposium was proof of the
concerted collaboration of many organisations and they were the key players who
helped to make the symposium a success.

Among them were the ISESCO, the Academy of Islamic Studies University of
Malaya, Department of Awqaf, Zakat and Haj (JAWHAR), Institute for Islamic
Understanding (IKIM), Malaysia's Department of Islamic Development (Jakim),
Pilgrimage Fund Board, and the Ministry of Information Communication and
Culture, he said.

He said the symposium was organised to reflect and highlight the impacts
that the Haj route achieved in various aspects of the Muslim communities, to
demostrate information and document contributions in improving Islamic
relations.

It was also to emphasize the impact of Islam on enhancing the culture of
peace and highlight the civilisational task which was achieved by Haj trips in
human communication, he added.
