BANGI (Malaysia), Dec 17 (Bernama) -- The 7th World Conference on Muslim
Education (World-COME 2009) is to be held over three days from Monday in Shah
Alam in the state of Selangor.
Selangor International Islamic University College (KUIS) deputy rector Mohd
Shah Abdullah said the conference, to be held at the Grand Blue Wave Hotel, was
organised by KUIS in collaboration with the Islamic Academy, Cambridge, United
Kingdom, and Ikatan Ilmuan.
It would discuss, among other things, the effect of globalisation on Islamic
higher education in the 21st century as well as the challenges to be faced.
Sixteen speakers, including Prof Dr Wahbah Al-Zuhaily of the Syariah Faculty
of Damascus University in Syria and former rector of the International Islamic
University of Malaysia Prof Dr Mohd Kamal Hassan, would present papers at the
conference, he said, adding that Yusoff Yu of Hong Kong would talk about the
Muslim minority in Hong Kong.
Between 250 and 300 people, many of them from abroad including Iran, Hong
Kong and several African countries, are expected to attend the conference, which
is expected to be opened by Selangor Chief Minister Abdul Khalid Ibrahim,
he said.
He also said that the conference would propose the setting up of the
International Academy of Muslim Education (IAME), which would be based at KUIS.
