Abdullah bin Zayed meets Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs
Abu Dhabi, Dec 22, 2009 (WAM) - Foreign Minister HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan received in Abu Dhabi yesterday Ukrainian Minister of Foreign Affairs Petro Poroshenko, who is currently visiting the country.
During the meeting, they discussed avenues of cooperation and friendship between the two countries and ways to strengthen and develop the ties. They also discussed a number of issues of common concern in the light of current developments on the regional and international levels.
Poroshenko praised the wise leadership of President HH Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan and hailed UAE's policies and constructive stance towards regional and international issues that contribute to the strengthening of peace and security.
The minister said in an exclusive interview with Emirates News Agency (WAM): "We look at our relations with the UAE as a distinctive one, which enjoys priority in the region. There is much prospect for bilateral cooperation with the UAE, as it is an important partner of Ukraine politically and economically".
He hailed the overall renaissance taking place in the UAE thanks to the leadership of HH President. The UAE has become a major destination for various international companies that are looking for investment opportunities.
"We in Ukraine are seeking to benefit from the experience of the UAE in economic diversification and development of sources of income ", the minister said adding that the facilities and privileges provided by the country to the investors are unparalleled in the region.
The minister said that the talks held with senior state officials have shown identical views on a number of issues of common concern, especially in the areas of economic, trade, investment, tourism, education, agriculture, space and aviation.
He noted that trade volume between Ukraine and the UAE amounted to about US$ 1.130bn during last year and this figure is likely to rise in view of positive cooperation in the economic and trade fields.
He expressed his hope that the opening of UAE Embassy in Kiev next year will bolster relations between the two countries and open new areas including politics, trade and tourism.
