UAE, Saudi human rights bodies sign MoU
Riyadh - Jan 4, 2010 (WAM)- UAE Human Rights Association and Saudi Arabia's National Human Rights Commission signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) providing for cooperation on promoting a culture of human rights and educating the community on human rights through conferences, symposia and workshops as well as the exchange of relevant researches and studies.
In statements following the signing ceremony in Riyadh, Deputy Head of the UAE Human Rights Association Mohammed Al-Ka'abi said "the leaders of member countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council seek integration among their countries and human rights bodies are part of this integration." For his part, Head of Saudi Arabia's National Human Rights Commission Mifleh Al-Kahtani said there are plans to establish a Gulf coordination council for human rights in order to unify efforts of human rights bodies in Gulf countries.
