Over 25,000 contestants to rum Zayed International Half Marathon 2010
Abu Dhabi, Jan 7, 2010 (WAM)- Over 25,000 contestants will run the Zayed International Half Marathon 2010 tomorrow along the Abu Dhabi Corniche.
People who will participate in the 21.5 km race are professionals and amateurs categories of various age groups of men, women, children, and students from all over the UAE in addition to the participation of people with special needs "Wheelchairs" besides the open race which will be attended by various institutions, bodies, companies and departments.
The event, organised by Armed Forces Officers Club in Abu Dhabi, as per directives from General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, crown prince of Abu Dhabi and deputy supreme commander of the UAE Armed Forces, and support from National Security Adviser HH Sheikh Hazza Bin Zayed Al Nahyan has the patronage of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs HH Sheikh Mansour Bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
Thousands of children have registered for races for the 10 to 15 years old category organised as part of the main event. Abu Dhabi Sports Council will oversee the arrangements for the Dh 10 million race and highlight the sporting event which is held in memory of the founder-leader, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and a contribution to honour his memory.
