Yemeni minister praises UAE's aid development to his country
Sana'a - Jan 12, 2010 (WAM)- Yemeni Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Abdul Karim al-Arhabi lauded yesterday the UAE's contributions to the development in his country.
“The smart card project , which is funded by the UAE, is one of the most vital projects that will make a qualitative leap in the work of the Department of Civil Status in Yemen via the creation of a data base for the civil register,' he told a joint meeting of the UAE-Yemen committee tasked with implementing the project.
“The project will contribute to realise development plans,” he added, urging the committee to conduct extensive discussions while exploring the adequate mechanisms for putting the biometric project in place.
Nasser Al Mazrouie, Director General of IT and Communications at the Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA), gave a presentation during the meeting about the UAE model on using the smart card.
He spoke about the technical and technological aspects of the project, its priorities and advantages in the security, economic, health and educational sectors.
“The UAE is ready to offer its expertise in this respect to render the project a success,” he affirmed.
Major General Riyadh Al Qurashi, Undersecretary of Yemeni Ministry of Interior for Finance and Administration, said the project would feature establishing an integrated national data base to be run by Yemeni well-trained professionals. “The project will be completed in two to three years,” he said.
