NCEMA signs MoUs with three strategic stakeholders concerned

Abu Dhabi, Jan 14, 2010 (WAM)- National Crisis and Emergency Management Authority (NCEMA) signed yesterday three Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) with Department of Municipal Affairs in Abu Dhabi (DMA), National Media Council (NMC) and Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company.
The three MoUs were concluded at the final day of a three-day Crisis and Emergency Management Conference in Abu Dhabi.
HE Mohammed Khalfan Al Rumaithy, General Manager of NCEMA, signed the first MoU with H.E Rashid Mubarak Al-Hajiri, Chairman of DMA.
The first MoU between the NCEMA and DMA provides for joint cooperation in exchange information and expertise especially in the geographical and geospatial information as the main tool for planning, readiness and response to handle crises and emergency.
Al-Hajiri said that the MoU is in the frame of sustainable cooperation and coordination among governmental institutions for the interest of the country and its citizens.
The second (MoU), signed by Al Rumaithy with H.E Ibrahim Al-Abed, Director General of National Media Council (NMC), calls on the NCEMA to supply the NMC with news and statements about its activities. Under the MoU, the NCEMA is required to give the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reporters access to information.
The MoU will also see the two sides cooperating in raising the awareness and culture about emergency and crisis management with the NCEMA acting as the reliable source of news. The NMC and NCEMA will also work to facilitate exchange of information, consultations and private publication.
H.E Ibrahim Al Abed, Director General of (NMC), expressed his pride to cooperate with the NCEMA), saying the MoU represents a qualitative leap in the national common work where the authority satisfies a basic national need, since it has managed in a short span of time to promote the culture of crises and emergency in its general meaning.
Finally, Al Rumaithy, General Manager of NCEMA, and H.E Yusuf Al Sayed, CEO of Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company, inked a MoU under which the latter will provide telecommunications services and create tailored telecommunications solutions at times of crises and emergency.
''We are very delightful with this partnership with (NCEMA) as we are well qualified in delivering high quality services when local networks break down during crises and emergency, '' Al Sayed said.
Al Rumaithy commented on the occasion saying the NCEMA is keen to communicate and cooperate with the public and private institutions within the frame of its preparedness to respond to emergency and crises.
''This step is just the beginning and it will be followed by more steps to make the NCEMA fully ready to any emergency,'' he added.
He expressed his happiness that the NCEMA is receiving support and assistance from strategic partners like Department of Municipal Affairs in Abu Dhabi (DMA), National Media Council (NMC) and Thuraya Satellite Telecommunications Company.
